Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Principal or Associate Engineer (Wastewater Network Modelling) to lead complex urban drainage modelling efforts and guide a growing team within a world‑class water practice. You will supervise the technical delivery, review outputs, and shape innovative approaches to efficient project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree and chartered, or progressing toward ICE, IEI, IoW or CIWEM.
  • Experience in wastewater hydraulic modelling and checking outputs.
  • Knowledge of Water Industry Standards and hydraulics modelling practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop urban drainage modelling capability and mentor junior team members.
  • Support local technical delivery team and supervise tasks/deliverables.
  • Provide input on urban drainage projects and future delivery approaches.
  • Engage with clients to maintain relationships and support proposals.

A Little More About Your Role…

We are looking for a Principal or Associate Engineer (Wastewater Network Modelling) to support the team leaders in managing project delivery, including supervision of tasks and review of deliverables. The role will enable you to further develop and use your technical skills, applying your expertise to help us continue driving forward in terms of both technical quality and service efficiency. You will be part of an award-winning water team within a network of 350 professionals across the UK, supported by our Global Water Team. You'll have the chance to shape the direction of a high-performing, growing team, working with clients such as Severn Trent, Scottish Water Horizons, Welsh Water, and Southern Water. There is a real opportunity for progression by combining your technical and industry knowledge with the right behaviours to encourage and develop others.


You will


  • Develop the urban drainage modelling capability in the team, ensuring we are at the forefront of latest developments in the discipline, and provide training and development support to more junior members of the team

  • Support the team lead in managing the work of the local technical delivery team

  • Provide technical input on urban drainage projects and support our wastewater team in delivering current and future projects and help influence our future approaches to efficient delivery

  • Exercise independent engineering judgement and have opportunities to provide innovative solutions to engineering problems.

  • Develop and maintain excellent client relationships at all levels, coordinating and facilitating project meetings internally and with clients

  • Participate in business development and proposal preparation

  • Promote the WSP brand through appropriate industry forums and conferences

  • Contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge sharing exercises


What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…


  • A relevant degree and chartered, or significantly progressed on your journey in pursuing qualification with ICE, IEI, IoW or CIWEM

  • Able to demonstrate clear and successful experience of wastewater hydraulic modelling (InfoWorks ICM) and an ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue

  • A good working knowledge of Water Industry Specifications, Code of Practice for the Hydraulic Modelling of Urban Drainage Systems and relevant British Standards

  • Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills
