Job summary

Twycross Zoo in the East Midlands is seeking a Primate Keeper to care for significant primate collections, including orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and other species. The role focuses on daily husbandry, nutrition, enrichment and welfare within a conservation charity.

The position involves partner collaboration with veterinary and education teams, a rota-based schedule, and opportunities to engage guests with talks and demonstrations.

Qualifications

• BSc or equivalent in animal or conservation field is desirable.
• DMZAA (or equivalent) is desirable.
• Knowledge of relevant taxa and their physiology, behaviour and care in zoos.
• High motivation to deliver high standards and excellence.
• Good time management and ability to work independently.
• Competent communicator across the society with confidentiality.
• MS Office and ZIMS IT competence.
• Knowledge of breeding programme management and zoos' conservation work.

Responsibilities

• Follow section husbandry and management routines to deliver animal care.
• Conduct daily observations and report concerns to senior staff.
• Follow required risk assessments, SOPs and safety policies.
• Seek ways to improve knowledge and animal welfare.
• Record animal data, diary entries, DAM daily reports and ZIMS entries.
• Engage with visitors through talks and public feeds.
• Support other departments including veterinary, maintenance, research and conservation education.
