Job summary

A primary education provider is seeking an experienced Year 5/6 Class Teacher for maternity cover. Year 5/6 Class Teacher Maternity Cover

Location: Penistone S36

Contract: Fixed Term (February 2026 up to March 2027, with review points)

Start Date: 9th February 2026 (one-week handover before half term)

Salary: MPS, dependent on experience

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Key Stage 2 Class Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school community to provide maternity cover for a Year 5/6 class. The successful candidate will take up the position in February 2026, allowing for a week’s handover before the half‑term break.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled practitioner to make a meaningful contribution to pupils’ learning and wellbeing during a key stage of their education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality teaching and learning in line with the school’s curriculum and values.
  • Plan and implement engaging lessons that meet the needs of a mixed Year 5/6 cohort.
  • Assess, track, and report on pupil progress in preparation for KS2 SATs.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment that supports the learning and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Work closely with colleagues, support staff, and parents to ensure consistent support for pupils.
  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.
Essential Criteria
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – not suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
  • Proven teaching experience within Key Stage 2, ideally in Years 5 and/or 6.
  • Sound understanding of KS2 SATs expectations and curriculum requirements.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, particularly ASD and ADHD.
  • Commitment to trauma‑informed practice and strong relational approaches to behaviour management.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Contract Details

Initial contract: February 2026 to end of academic year, with potential extension from September 2026 to March 2027.

Contract reviewed half‑termly.

Full‑time post.
