Roles & Responsibilities

The Class Teacher will take ownership of the classroom experience and contribute strategically:

  • Behaviour Leadership: Implement consistent, positive, and robust behaviour management strategies that contribute to a calm and focused learning environment for a large class size.

  • EAL Strategies: Systematically embed best practice strategies for EAL acquisition across all subjects, ensuring vocabulary and language are explicitly taught.

  • Mentoring TAs: Provide daily guidance and effective supervision to assigned Teaching Assistants, maximising their impact on pupil learning and welfare.

  • Assessment Cycle: Lead the formative assessment cycle for your class, ensuring moderation is rigorous and that assessment informs immediate lesson differentiation.

  • Safeguarding: Act as a vigilant first responder for safeguarding concerns, accurately recording and reporting issues in line with statutory guidance and school policy.

  • Curriculum Modification: Adapt scheme of work documents to ensure cultural relevance and engagement, utilising local resources and pupil background knowledge to deepen understanding.

Requirements

The school expects the successful applicant to possess:

  • Certification: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is mandatory.

  • Experience: Significant recent teaching experience (KS1 or KS2) in a highly diverse or urban primary school setting.

  • Expertise: Demonstrable knowledge and application of effective strategies for teaching pupils with EAL and complex needs.

  • Behaviour Management: A proven track record of maintaining exemplary pupil behaviour and creating a positive, safe classroom culture.

  • Compliance: Must possess a current Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service.
