Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30-16:00
Contract: Ongoing
Start: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and reliable Teaching Assistant to join an SEN school in Gateshead. This a rewarding role where you will support pupils' learning and personal development while helping create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
Supporting Pupils
  • Supervise pupils to ensure safety and access to learning.
  • Build positive relationships, act as a role model, and respond to individual needs.
  • Promote inclusion, interaction, independence, and resilience.
  • Assist with Personal Learning Plans and provide feedback under teacher guidance.
  • Attend to personal needs and support social, health, hygiene, and welfare requirements.
Supporting Classroom Teams
  • Prepare classrooms for lessons, support teaching delivery, and tidy afterward.
  • Monitor pupils' progress and record achievements.
  • Support emotional and sensory regulation and contribute to creating a positive learning environment.
  • Communicate with parents/carers and colleagues as directed.
Supporting the School
  • Contribute to school ethos and improvement programmes.
  • Assist with extra‑curricular activities and safe collection of pupils.
  • Uphold safeguarding, child protection, and school policies.
  • Maintain professional conduct, appearance, and participate in training as required.
