Qualifications

• Review supplier and client designs for compliance with standards and regulations.
• Act as CDM Designer/Principal Designer, managing H&S risks.
• Support site activities and design changes.
• Ensure designs meet programme, quality, and commercial objectives.

Primary Design Engineer - HV & EHV Substations

Contract: 12 months
Location: United Kingdom - Travel to project sites required
Contract Type: Inside IR35

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Primary Design Engineer to join their Energy division. This role is ideal for an experienced electrical engineer with expertise in HV and EHV substation design, from 11kV to 132kV, on technically complex projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce design drawings, feasibility studies, layouts, and GA's for substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for transformers, switchgear, batteries, CTs, and associated plant.
• Review supplier and client designs for compliance with standards and regulations.
• Act as CDM Designer/Principal Designer, managing H&S risks.
• Support site activities and design changes.
• Ensure designs meet programme, quality, and commercial objectives.

Requirements:

• HNC in Electrical Engineering (minimum) with 5+ years' experience in HV/EHV substations (AIS & GIS).
• Experience in cable design, protection & control, load/rating calculations, and cost estimation.
• Knowledge of engineering standards, earthing, and electrical clearances.
• Strong understanding of CDM regulations and H&S requirements.
• Flexibility to travel to project sites.
