Primary Care Nurse

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides the contract to provide integrated health‑care services to HMP Littlehey. We are currently looking to recruit an innovative band 5 nurse to work within our existing team.

The primary focus of this post will be to deliver the highest standard of care required to meet the diverse and complex healthcare needs of an adult male population.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly team player who is passionate about all aspects of nursing and who has exceptional clinical skills. The post holder will lead by example, demonstrating consistent exemplary standards of care and professionalism, be innovative and keen to drive nursing forward.

HMP Littlehey is a large Category C prison located in the picturesque village of Perry near Grafham Water, near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. The facilities include free parking, a staff restaurant and an onsite gymnasium. Healthcare services are delivered from two modern, well‑equipped healthcare centres by a multidisciplinary team that has won the prestigious WHO European Best Practice in Prisons Award and NHFT Team of the Year in 2018.

NHFT is an integrated primary‑care and mental‑health Trust, providing physical, mental‑health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Job responsibilities
  • Work with the oversight of a band 6 nurse to oversee the provision of day‑to‑day healthcare services as required.
  • Adhere to Trust policies, procedures and standards and work within the guidelines of the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Organise your own workload and manage time effectively.
  • Attend multi‑agency and multi‑disciplinary meetings, both internally and externally, representing Healthcare and NHFT in a professional manner.
  • Autonomously assess and manage residents’ care in a nurse‑led prison healthcare environment.
  • Appropriately use the NEWS2 assessment tool.
  • Maintain excellent written and oral communication skills and contemporaneous healthcare records.
  • Administer medications in accordance with NHFT and locally agreed policies and guidance.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and utilise a wide range of communication skills, treating residents with respect and empathy.
