A local authority in England is seeking a Prevent Communities Development Lead to enhance community resilience against radicalization and terrorism. The role demands strategic planning, community development, and effective partnership with various stakeholders. Responsibilities include developing community strategies, leading funded projects, and fostering relationships within the community. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community engagement, leadership, and crisis management. This role requires occasional car usage and police vetting.

Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
Police Vetting – You will be required to undertake a Greater Manchester Police vetting process.
DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. Prevent is part of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. We do this by challenging terrorist ideology; supporting people susceptible to being drawn into terrorism and building resilience in a variety of sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation. We need to respond to tackle all forms of extremism - including both International and Extreme Right-Wing threats.
The public sector but in particular local authorities have a vital role to play in the successful delivery of Prevent objectives.This is a high profile role responsible for supporting the local authority to deliver against its statutory Prevent and Channel responsibilities and work in partnership with communities and the voluntary and community sector to raise awareness and co-design activities that build community resilience to radicalisation and terrorism.
The Prevent Communities Development Lead will be required to perform a strategic function, which connects with wider related strategies and focuses on strengthening neighbourhood delivery through a people and place lenses, utilising community assets, individuals and existing projects and programmes of work to develop and strengthen work delivered in partnership with our communities and strategic partners to prevent radicalisation and terrorism.
