Role Overview:

The Talent Set is thrilled to be working with an Higher education institution in their search for a temporary Press Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the main contact for journalists, ensuring timely and accurate responses to enquiries and connecting them with relevant experts.
  • Proactively identify stories and achievements to create impactful media campaigns in the UK and internationally.
  • Build and nurture relationships with media outlets to secure high-quality coverage.
  • Write engaging news releases, media briefings, social media posts, and expert comment pieces that highlight the University’s impact.
  • Keep website and social media channels up to date in collaboration with the Communications team.
  • Track media and higher education trends to identify opportunities for positive coverage.
  • Evaluate media activity and prepare reports to measure reach and impact.
  • Monitor press and social media, providing updates and analysis for leadership.

Person Specification:

  • Proven track record in media and communications, with significant hands-on experience
  • Confident in using social media platforms and digital communication tools, with a proactive approach to keeping skills up to date
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, able to adapt messaging for different audiences
  • Skilled at building and maintaining effective professional networks
  • Highly organised, with the ability to deliver accurate work at pace and meet tight deadlines
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively with colleagues and stakeholders

What’s on Offer:

  • Offer flexible working, with 1 - 3 days in their South-East office.
  • A rate of up to £127.42 per-day + £15.86 daily holiday for the successful candidate.
  • An initial 3 -month contract with the potential to be extended.
