Job Summary

Position: Prescription Clerk
Hours: Monday to Friday 09:00‑17:30 (Thursday finishes at 17:00) – Full time (Part‑time applications considered)

Key Responsibilities
  • Process repeat medication requests using the surgery’s protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Action repeat medication requests received via paper, SystmOne online services, and email throughout the day.
  • Collect paper repeat prescription requests from the post box and reception regularly.
  • Liaise with patients, local chemists, and hospital teams regarding queries and medication changes (e.g., discharge summaries, hospital letters).
  • Record medication that is hospital‑only correctly in accordance with protocols.
  • Ensure repeat medication is issued in line with existing protocols and that any queries are dealt with quickly and correctly.
  • Highlight patient medication queries to the relevant GP when appropriate.
  • Check medication due dates, synchronise repeats, and manage required drug‑monitoring blood tests as per surgery policies.
  • Run searches and reports to identify patients on specific drugs as directed by the Clinical Pharmacist.
  • Contact patients and book appointments for medication reviews as required.
  • Complete any other tasks allocated by a Pharmacist or Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality, handle delicate information, and uphold the practice’s data protection obligations.
  • Use relevant IT systems (SystmOne, Team Net, Microsoft Office) to support duties.
  • Participate in surveys or audits necessary for own work and report findings appropriately.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during breaks, holidays, sickness, and training.
  • Adhere to health and safety requirements and maintain a clean workplace.
  • Drive to other sites when required; a full UK driving licence is essential.
