Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a pre-operative assessment nurse to manage an autonomous caseload and clinic, assessing patients and deciding which investigations to request.

You will order tests such as ECGs and lung function, interpret results, and refer to consultants or diabetologists as needed; you must have current NMC registration (adult nurse) and pre-operative experience. Flexible working arrangements are offered.

Responsibilities

• Hold responsibility for own caseload and clinic.
• Assess patients independently using clinical reasoning.
• Determine clinical indication and independently request investigations such as echocardiograms, ECGs, lung function tests and blood tests.
• Interpret investigation results for patients.
• Refer patients appropriately to other health professionals, including consultant anaesthetists and diabetic specialists.
• Manage patients using investigations, clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
• Communicate with patients who have a different first language, using interpreters where needed.
• Follow clinical guidelines and protocols within speciality and in line with national guidance.
• Take professional and legal accountability for own work and the patients in their care.
