Job summary

Elvet Recruitment are recruiting estimators of all levels for a leading family‑owned building contractor based in County Durham, working across Commercial and Residential projects.

You will join a high‑performing pre‑construction team, preparing tenders, reviewing drawings and cost estimates, and collaborating with design, commercial and operations colleagues. Occasional site visits and flexible working from home are available.

Qualifications

• Experience as an estimator within a main contractor environment.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods and pricing.
• The ability to measure works and prepare costs independently.
• Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Strong communication, organisational and IT skills.
• A proactive, positive and collaborative approach.
• Experience with Causeway is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Preparing competitive tenders across a diverse range of projects.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Producing accurate take-offs and cost estimates.
• Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Identifying value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
• Responding to client queries and attending tender meetings.
• Collaborating with our design, commercial and operations teams.
• Carrying out occasional site visits.
