Job Summary

Ravensworth Surgery is recruiting an experienced registered Practice Nurse to support a patient population of ~6,000 across two surgeries in South Tyneside. The Practice Nurse will deliver basic nursing services, manage chronic disease reviews, immunisations, pathology, health promotion, and work closely with the GP team to provide holistic patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver general practice nursing services, including immunisations, screening, opportunistic consultations, chronic disease reviews, ear care, wound management, health promotion, contraceptive advice, mental health support and safeguarding.
• Co‑ordinate patient assessments and public health initiatives alongside GP partners.
• Assist in developing and implementing clinical protocols, audit and infection control procedures.
• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, vaccination stock and PPE.
• Lead infection control and health‑safety practices across the practice.
• Participate in training and mentoring of students/trainees and support continuous professional development.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Registered General Nurse, PAD (Practice Nurse) registration.
• Diploma‑level qualification in practice nursing or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years’ primary‑care practice nursing experience.
• Full driving licence and own transport.
• Strong communication, chronic disease management, NHS screening programme knowledge, confidentiality, workload prioritisation and adaptability.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a busy, multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

• Certificates in chronic disease management, immunisation training, cervical cytology taker.
• Experience with EMIS Web and general practice workflows.

Development & Support

• Annual individual performance review and record of continuing professional development.
• Attendance at clinical and administrative meetings, local training sessions.
• Dissemination of learning to other team members.
• Mentoring of students and trainees.
