Job summary

Tadworth Medical Centre in Surrey is seeking a proactive Practice Nurse to join our friendly team on a part-time basis (up to 3 days per week). You will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in a well-established GMS practice serving about 10,000 patients.

You will manage long-term conditions (asthma, COPD, diabetes), immunisations, travel health, cervical screening, wound care, spirometry and health promotion. The role requires UK registration with the NMC and prior GP practice experience.

Are you an experienced and motivated Practice Nurse looking for a role where you can truly make a difference? Tadworth Medical Centre is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic experienced practice nurse to join our friendly, supportive, and forward-thinking team, delivering high-quality care to a patient population of approximately 10,000.

You will play a key role in providing comprehensive, patient-centred care while working collaboratively with GPs and the wider primary healthcare team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will deliver a full range of general practice nursing services, including the management of long-term conditions such as asthma, COPD, and diabetes. You will also be qualified in childhood and adult immunisations, travel health services, cervical screening, wound care, and health promotion clinics as well as spirometry and supporting patients to make positive lifestyle changes.

You will be expected to provide holistic care, maintain accurate clinical records in line with standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical services within the practice. The role also involves participating in clinical governance, maintaining infection control standards, supporting colleagues, and engaging in continuous professional development.

We are looking for a nurse with previous general practice experience who is confident, compassionate, and committed to delivering excellent patient care. You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills and a proactive approach to your work.

Job responsibilities
  • Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Facilitates change.
  • Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
  • Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
  • Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
  • Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines.
  • Perform contraceptive reviews
  • Suture removal.
  • Take ECGs
  • Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, sterilizer and emergency equipment.
  • Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times.
