AbertaweMedical Partnership requires an enthusiastic, highly motivated Nurse to workwithin a busy but friendly practice.Experience of working in a primary care setting is essential. We are a dedicated team delivering a highstandard of patient care. The surgery issupported by an excellent clinical and administrative team. The Practice Nurse will be able to assess thenursing needs of patients. She will beexpected to provide appropriate care/treatment in conjunction with the GP, orindependently, as appropriate and according to Practice policy, protocoletc. The Practice Nurse will advisepatients in general health care and minor ailments with referral to GeneralPractitioners when necessary. Itis important that all members of staff are prepared to undertake additionalduties or relinquish existing duties in order to maintain the efficient runningof the Practice.

Main duties of the job

MainDuties and Responsibilities

Venepuncture. Testing pathology samples e.g. blood,urine. Blood pressure and weight management. Aid/chaperone to GP during clinicalprocedures, e.g. minor operations, vasectomy, etc. Specimen collection e.g. msu, pregnancytests, occult blood, faeces for O&S, sputum, etc. The Nurse will be responsible to puttinglabels on samples, form filling and ensuring timely preparation ofspecimens for collection to laboratory. General observations e.g. BP, pulse andtemperature. ECG nurse responsible for recharging ecgmachine. Use and care of nebulisers. Ensure the maintenance of stock levels inthe Treatment Room relating to patient care. The Nurse will administer childhoodimmunisations in conjunction with the GP as per the child immunisationprogramme. Administration of travel vaccination andtravel advice. Flu vaccination clinics/any other vaccinationclinics as deemed appropriate.

Job responsibilities

Dressingssimple and complex.

Healthpromotion and chronic disease management.

Chronic disease management procedures may include:

Identifyand target patients for chronic disease clinics as per GMS contractrequirements.

Organiseand facilitate Nurse Led Chronic Disease Management Clinics i.e. Well-Person,Well-Woman, Diabetes, Asthma & COPD, Heart Disease prevention, Epilepsy,Smoking Cessation, alcohol advice, weight/diet control or any other which maybe considered appropriate.

Liaisonwith other agencies as required.

Teachingpatients self-care where appropriate.

Proceduresmay include:

Checkingdemographic details.

Takinga full medical, family and lifestyle history.

Recordingprevious screening procedures and immunisation status.

Givingimmunisation and vaccinations when indicated.

Urinetesting, blood pressure, height and weight measurement.

Teachingbreast self-examination and encouraging breast awareness.

Cervicalsmears

Peakflow/spirometry measurement, and inhaler technique.

Liaisingwith administrative staff to ensure that claim forms are completed and generaloffice procedures maintained.

Providingwhere appropriate patient education and information.

Recordingof relevant data onto Practice clinical computer system.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse.
