Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking a Practice Nurse to join our expanding team. The role is flexible across full or part time hours with sites in Redcar and Eston, and collaboration with Woodside Surgery in Loftus.

You will provide a wide range of treatment room duties, cervical screening, and chronic disease management within a supportive primary care team. Responsibilities include wound care, ECGs, minor procedures, vaccinations, travel health advice, and health promotion.

Qualifications

  • Nurse to provide Primary Medical Services including chronic disease management and vaccinations.
  • Ability to perform wound care, ECGs, and minor procedures within GMS practice guidelines.
  • Experience in health promotion, travel health advice and holistic patient assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine patient care tasks as directed by GPs.
  • Provide wound care, Doppler assessments and suture removal when required.
  • Conduct new patient medicals, urinalysis and ECGs as part of routine reviews.
  • Run well person clinics with lifestyle and health promotion advice.
  • Support COPD/asthma management, diabetes/CHD and hypertension care.
  • Assist with minor surgery, pathology requests, consent, and infection control.
  • Document consultations per NMC guidelines and participate in practice meetings.

Job description

Due to expanding our Team following the merge of practices we have a vacancy for Practice Nurse. We are flexible over full or part time hours. We have sites in Redcar and Eston and the selected candidate will work across all sites. We also work collaboratively with Woodside Surgery in Loftus. The selected candidate will see a range of treatment room duties as well as Cervical Screening and Chronic Disease Management., The Nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of Practice.,

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the GPs
  • Wound care/ulcer care/Doppler
  • Removal of Sutures
  • New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
  • ECGs
  • Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.
  • Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
  • COPD/Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
  • Diabetes/CHD Management
  • Hypertension Management
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
  • Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Cytology
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
  • Other tasks will include:
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
  • Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
