Job description

Due tomaternity leave, North Riding Primary Care Network are looking to recruit anenthusiastic, compassionate and experienced Practice Nurse for 3 days a weekfor a period of 12 months to cover maternity leave.

Derwent Practice is a large and well-established familyfriendly Practice within the Malton Community, rated good by CQC in 2023. We are based in the food capital of Yorkshire, close tothe beautiful Howardian Hills, York and the North York Moors. We have adedicated and supportive team of healthcare professionals, including 10 GPPartners, Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists,Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Mental Health Practitioners as well as a fullcomplement of support staff. Our multi-disciplinary approach allows us toprovide comprehensive and personalised care to our patients and fosters awelcoming environment for all.

Main duties of the job
  • Tobe responsible for diagnostic procedures forexample, venepuncture, blood pressure, height/weight, ECG and any specimens.
  • To advise patients on general health care and promotion of health lifestyles.
  • To manage patients with Chronic Disease, running specific clinics and maintaining call/recall systems.
  • To be responsible for chronic wound care as well as post-surgical wound care.
  • To administer injections under and individualised prescription or PGD within training limits.
  • To maintain the cold chain of vaccines, including the safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs.
  • To administer immunisations - for example, influenza, pneumococcal, tetanus and childhood immunisations.
  • To participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology.
  • To provide directly and assist GPs with contraceptive services.
  • To assist GPs with minor surgery as required.
  • As part of a team, lead on infection prevention and control.

Job responsibilities
  • To work independently as part of a busy Nursing Department, to meet the needs of patients and service delivery.
  • To be an active and integral member of the Nursing Team, attending team meetings and training sessions, supporting colleagues and working flexibly to cover annual leave or sickness as well as enhanced hours including Saturdays on a rota basis.
  • To act as a chaperone if required/requested by patients and colleagues.
  • To work alongside HCAs and Student Nurses to develop their skills and offer mentorship, guidance and support to improve standards of care if needed.
  • To assist in maintaining a safe environment for the Nursing Team, patients and co-workers, ensuring that all statutory and local regulations (e.g health and safety, COSHH, clinical waste management, infection control) are implemented and followed.
  • To ensure data is recorded accurately and timely onto patient records using SystmOne, with due regard for record management and patient confidentiality.
  • To ensure data is accuractely recordd onto relevant templates and documentation associated with patient health care.
  • To maintain and stock examination rooms and treatment rooms with agreed consumables and clinical equipment/instruments.
  • To collect data and participate in regular practice audits and research projects.
  • To be aware of quality standards and targets set out in NICE guidelines, and NHS contracts, Quality and Outcomes Framework, etc., working to achieve these standards at all times.
  • To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice.
  • To maintain annual registration with the NMC and other professional bodies (as required). To adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct.

The post holder will also take on any other duties delegated by the Nurse, Manager, Doctors or Practice Management.
