Job description

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and any additional roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training. Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, the post-holder will provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice to patients.

The post-holder will work with reference to practice agreed protocols and guidelines, providing nursing treatments to patients both independently and in participation with nurse colleagues and general practitioners.

Main duties of the job
  • Practice independently in accordance with the Nursing code of conduct and with reference to practice guidelines, appropriately referring to GPs
  • Provide assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care
  • Ensure continuation of own personal and professional development
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
  • Clinical Care:
  • Management of chronic conditions
  • Cytology
  • Wound care
  • Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations
  • Travel Clinic
  • Removal of Sutures
  • Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets
  • Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.

We are a busy practice, with a list size of 10000 patients which will be increasing over the coming years as new residences are built in our locality.

Qualifications
  • RGN Qualification Current NMC registration Certificate in General Practice Nursing Cervical Screening Taker Childhood Imms
  • Minimum 3 years post registration experience Minimum 2 years General Practice Nursing experience Clinical skills including cervical cytology, immunisation and vaccinations
  • Experience in implementing protocols and clinical guidelines
  • Experience of nurse-led management of long-term conditions
  • Management of Chronic Disease
  • We are looking experienced nurse who can help us to manage QOF etc
  • Practice Nurse experience within Primary Care is essential
  • Accredited training in chronic disease management
