Job summary

Kent Local Medical Committee is seeking a Practice Nurse to join Oakfield Health Centre on a part-time basis (17 hours). You will work alongside GPs, advanced nurse practitioners and the nursing team, delivering patient care in a general practice setting.

The role supports development in chronic disease management and requires effective patient communication. The post offers opportunities for professional development, a patient-centred approach, and is based in Gravesend with on-site parking.

Qualifications

  • Essential to have excellent computer and people skills.
  • Experience in General Practice including face-to-face and telephone consultations is desirable.
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn EMIS Web and other practice systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with GPs and nursing staff to deliver patient care.
  • Maintain competence in basic and advanced nursing skills and develop new clinical practices.
  • Carry out audits, safety checks, stock control and risk management.
  • Participate in quality improvement and infection control protocols.

Job Title: Practice Nurse

Responsible to: Lead Practice Nurse - Clinically and Practice Manager/Operations Manager

HOURS: 17 hours

SALARY: Based on Experience & Qualifications (NHS Pension available)

LOCATION: Oakfield Health Centre

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Oakfield are looking to recruit a new practice nurse to join our friendly nursing team

You will be working closely with salaried GPs; practice nurses; advanced nurse practitioners; Physician Associate; health care assistants; Phlebotomists and all non-clinical staff.

As a Practice Nurse you should ideally be qualified in chronic disease management to include: asthma, diabetes, cervical cytology, wound care, along with general treatment room duties. The Practice supports professional development to ensure a full skills mix of treatments can be provided to our patients.

The candidate will have experience in working in General Practice, face to face and telephone consultations, this would be desirable, but not essential.

Essential to have excellent computer, patient /people skills along with an eye for detail and be prepared to be flexible being a key member of the clinical team influencing and developing the role.

This role requires a well presented individual with a calm, methodical approach to work, the ability to deal empathically and professionally with the general public

A working knowledge of EMIS Web would be desirable, but not essential as full training will be provided.

  • Health and Safety and Infection Control protocols are followed including carrying out weekly / monthly / annual audits, and if any issues are raised and acted upon.
  • Medical equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • To oversee the ordering of stock and carrying out of inventories, to ensure cost effective use of resources, taking into account budget control.
  • Safe management of Sharps Procedure, Waste Management, Decontamination Control Procedures and Spillage Control procedures.
  • Actively identify report and correct health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately.
  • Develop and maintain own competence in basic and advanced clinical skills, identify and action new advances in nursing care.
  • Attend and participate in any meetings arranged by the practice when required
  • Support other members of the nursing team with any training needs and development
  • Participate in quality improvement and innovations e.g. audit, significant event analysis and development of protocols and new services.
  • Complete statutory training/updating and mandatory training as defined by the practice.
  • Participate in an annual individual performance review maintaining a record of own personal and professional development including the requirements of NMC revalidation
