About Crickhowell Group Practice
Crickhowell Group Practice is a General Practice based in Crickhowell, Powys. We are a rural practice located within the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. We are six miles from the vibrant town of Abergavenny, 13 miles from Brecon and only 25 miles from Cardiff. We enjoy good local schools and other amenities.
The Practice has 7 Doctors (5 GP Partners and 2 Salaried GPs), 4 Nursing staff (FTE) and 2 HCSW (FTE). We also provide Health Visitor, and Community Mental Health via NHS staff. Crickhowell Group Practice is a very high achieving practice under the Quality Assurance and Improvement Framework, QAIF, and consistently receives high Patient Satisfaction ratings from our Community Health Council Reviews. We are a very busy centre and strive to ensure that our patients are cared for to the highest standards.

Provide a range of nursing care to patients referred by other members of the primary care team
Following appropriate training or proof of competency provide:
A comprehensive chronic disease programme - diabetes, respiratory, and CHD, providing practical assistance and professional advice ensuring minimum standards of care following appropriate training
Venepuncture and ECG
Opportunistic screening and new patient checks
Wound care/management/dressing techniques
Injections under an individualized prescription or PGD, ensuring safe storage, rotation, and disposal of vaccines and drugs
Monitoring of anticoagulation for patients taking oral anticoagulants (INR clinic)
Additionally to:
Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours and suicidal tendencies and maintain awareness of local referral procedures
Complete mandatory updates annually
Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling laboratory specimens, disposal of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids and report and treat sharp injuries
Support the development of nursing procedures/protocols within the practice
Contribute to clinical governance through participation in risk assessments, audit and research as directed by the lead nurse
Exercised duties and responsibilities associated with the continuous improvement in quality and standards the clinical governance agenda
Participate in the administration and professional responsibilities of the practice team and take appropriate action if standards are not met
Responsible for maintaining own professional development and undertakes annual training and demonstrates competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques
Contribute to achieving practice targets, e.g. Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement
Contribute to the maintenance of the practice disease registers and maintain clinical records
Assist other team members to ensure that the practice medical equipment is managed and stocks in the treatment room are maintained.
Support the development of integrated services within the primary care team.
Alert the Management Team to issues of quality and risk.
