We are looking for a dedicated and experienced PracticeNurse to join our friendly and professional team.

You will play a vital role in delivering high-qualitypatient care, improving health outcomes, and supporting our GPs by managing awide range of clinical responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced and confident Practice Nurse to join our dedicated healthcare team. The ideal candidatemust have prior experience in general practice, be confident in using theEMISclinical system, and demonstrate a high standard of patient care and clinical competence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health assessments, triage patients, and provide clinical advice.
  • Administer childhood and travel vaccinations, wound care, cervical screening, B12 injections and other treatment procedures.
  • Support chronic disease management programs (e.g., diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular health).
  • Drawing bloods and provide patient education and health promotion activities (e.g., smoking cessation, weight management).
  • Manage infection control and maintain clinical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records using electronic health systems.
  • Work within regulatory and clinical governance frameworks, ensuring best practice standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to practice audits and reviews.

Alastair Ross Medical Practice is a busy, well-established GP practice located within Breightmet Health Centre - a modern facility in the heart of Breightmet. We currently care for around 7,000 patients. Our team includes four regular GPs, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Practice Manager, an Assistant Manager, and a dedicated team of reception and administrative staff.

Job responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be confident and competent in the following areas: Conducting chronic disease annual reviews Performing cervical screenings, childhood immunisations, travel vaccinations, and B12 injections Drawing blood and carrying out general health checks Leading and managing infection prevention and control measures within the surgery Supporting the practice in meeting clinical and operational targets Proficiency in EMIS clinical system templates is essential, as we require someone who can integrate quickly and work independently from the outset.
Qualifications

  • 1. Qualifications & Registration Registered Nurse (RN) with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • 2. Experience Prior experience in a general practice setting. Post-registration experience in a primary care or community setting.
  • 3. Clinical Systems Confident in using the EMIS clinical system.
  • 4. Specialist Training & Skills Completion of training in key clinical areas, including: Chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, asthma, COPD). Cervical screening (must hold smear-taking certification). Childhood and adult immunisations. Travel health advice and vaccinations. Phlebotomy must be competent in drawing blood. Wound care and management.
  • 5. Certifications Up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) and Anaphylaxis training.
  • 6. Professional Development Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
  • 7. Core Competencies Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication, clinical, and organisational skills.
