Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Practice Nurse to complement the role of the GP and other Health Professionals and be an integral part and key member of the care team. You will use your clinical skills within the practice to promote well‑being, maximise health gain for patients, and provide a safe, high‑quality, accessible treatment‑room service to our registered patients. The ideal candidate will have experience in a primary‑care setting, preferably as a Practice Nurse, with additional qualifications in long‑term conditions such as COPD, asthma, diabetes and CHD desirable, as are qualification in contraception and travel vaccination.

About Us
PML is a successful not‑for‑profit, GP‑led organisation providing various NHS community and primary‑care clinical services to patients across Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. We employ around 300 staff with a turnover of circa £16 m, hold GMS contracts and act as a GP Federation representing about 50 GP practices covering approximately 650,000 patients.

Job Responsibilities
Professional
- Assess problems presented opportunistically by patients.
- Provide continuing care to patients across the practice population.
- Initiate laboratory requests, collect specimens and interpret specified results.
- Perform holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation.
- Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence‑based guidelines.
- Suture/clip removal.
- ECG.
- Perform holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear.
- Advise about vaccinations and injections and ensure they are administered under relevant policies, guidelines and PGDs.
- Assist in the provision of minor surgery.
- Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
- Obtain and document informed consent (written or verbal).
- Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
- Communicate effectively with other members of the primary health‑care team.
- Preserve confidentiality.
- Any other duties considered relevant to the post.
Managerial
- Assist patients to identify their health needs.
- Maintain accurate records in line with practice policy and NMC Guidelines using appropriate computer software.
- Contribute to the assessment of service needs.
- Maintain equipment and stock control, including refrigeration, vaccine ordering, single‑use equipment and stock of emergency rugs and equipment.
- Contribute a nursing‑level perspective to the Practice Development Plan.
- Manage and organise individual patient consultations.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
- Preserve confidentiality of information gained at all times.
Educational
- Identify personal development and training needs with the Nurse Manager and Practice Manager.
- Participate in an annual individual performance review.
- Participate fully in practice audit and quality development programmes.
- Participate in formal tutorials and informal training of all treatment‑room trainees, GP trainees and other allied health professionals in the practice.
Management of Chronic Disease
- Develop knowledge and progress in managing chronic disease patients within the primary‑care setting.
- Diagnose, monitor and develop individual management plans.
- Check compliance with and adherence to appropriate treatments using a holistic, patient‑centred approach.
- Recognise abnormalities and identify the impact of treatment, recommending changes as appropriate.
Research Projects
- Co‑operate and participate in any research projects within the practice as required.
Health and Safety
- Assist in promoting and maintaining health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy.
- Use personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
- Identify risks involved in work activities and undertake them in a risk‑managed manner.
- Use appropriate infection control procedures and maintain tidy, safe work areas free from hazards.
- Report potential risks identified.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Registered with the NMC.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
- Certification of competency in child immunisation.
- Certification of competency in cytology.
Desirable:
- Certification of competency in travel vaccination.
- General Certificate in Practice (Research).< /li>
- Diabetes diploma.
- Independent Prescriber.
