Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Practice Nurse to join our enthusiastic team of nurses. We are looking for someone who is motivated and enjoys working as part of a team. Previous experience within a GP practice is essential. This is a full‑time role, but we may consider 28–35 hours with flexibility to cover sickness and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • To provide excellent patient care.
  • Treatment room skills including chronic disease management (ideally asthma and COPD), immunisation, screening and health promotion.
  • Participate in setting standards for care and auditing clinical outcomes.
  • Promote and participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment.
  • Develop and implement health promotion programmes for clients and carers and facilitate screening clinics.
  • Take responsibility for the safe storage and administration of drugs and equipment.
  • Monitor standards to ensure effective care and evidence‑based practice.
  • Provide information, advice and support to patients face‑to‑face and via telephone.
  • Participate in team discussions to ensure best practice.

The SSMC Nursing team comprises a Senior Nurse, a New to Practice Nurse and a Nurse Associate who provide a whole range of practice nursing duties. You will be well supported with bi‑weekly catch‑ups with the clinical lead.

Contract & Pay
  • Salary: £19 to £25 an hour
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Working pattern: Full‑time, Part‑time

About You
  • Registered General Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Able to work in a changing environment and implement change when applicable to provide high‑quality health care.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and decision‑making skills clinically.
  • Aware of local and national health policy.
  • Must have PC skills (we use EmisWeb); ideally basic Word, Excel and email.
  • Highly motivated and flexible.
Requirements
  • Primary Care experience is essential.
  • To be currently registered with the NMC.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Person Specification
  • Essential: Primary Care Nursing experience, minimum of 3 years; registered with the NMC; evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Desirable: Experience managing long‑term conditions; COPD and Asthma training qualification.
