North Buckinghamshire Primary Care Network – Practice Manager

Main duties of the job
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership and line management for non‑clinical staff, fostering a positive and supportive culture.
  • Oversee practice operations including reception, administration, appointments and workflow to maintain safe, efficient patient services.
  • Lead on HR processes: recruitment, induction, rotas, appraisals, absence management and employee relations, supported by external HR where required.
  • Manage practice finances in conjunction with the GP Partner: budgets, income and expenditure, payroll oversight, NHS and enhanced services claims and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC, Health & Safety, data protection/IG, infection prevention and control and other statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Support the GP Partner in delivering QOF, IIF and locally commissioned services, maximising quality and income while maintaining high clinical standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the PCN (North Bucks PCN), ICB and wider system partners, representing the practice at relevant meetings and contributing to local initiatives.
  • Lead on practice policies, business continuity plans and significant event/complaints management, ensuring learning and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee IT systems (EMIS, Accurx, telephony and digital tools), ensuring effective use by staff and supporting digital access for patients.

Experience
  • Proven management experience in a complex service environment (e.g. primary care, wider NHS, social care or similar).
  • Strong people management skills, with experience of leading, developing and supporting teams through change.
  • Good understanding of HR processes and employment best practice.
  • Confident financial and business management skills, including budgeting and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, patients and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise and work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Confident IT user, comfortable with EMIS, Accurx, MS Office and digital tools.
  • Previous experience working in a GP practice or primary care environment.
  • Knowledge of GP contracts, QOF, enhanced services and PCN arrangements.
  • Experience of CQC and clinical governance frameworks.
  • Management/leadership qualification (e.g. AMSPAR, ILM or equivalent).
