Thepractice manager will be expected to take responsibility for all non-clinical activities within the practice, liaising closely with partners, while allowingthem to concentrate on their medical duties. The manager will take an executive role in day to day administrative areas, and will have a key role in the development of the practice. The ability to work closely with and delegatetasks to nursing and reception staff will be essential.

Thepractice manager will oversee all aspects of the practice including servicemanagement, finance, people management, resources, information, compliance,quality assurance and communications.

The Edlington Practice serves a patient list ofapproximately 5000 patients, approximately 80% of whom live in the township ofEdlington. Edlington was built around amine and has struggled to move on since the pit closures. We sit within Doncaster South Primary CareNetwork.
This is an established role, the vacancy created by retirement. There is an opportunity to develop thepractice beyond its current working patterns, while having the security of an established team.
Job responsibilities
SERVICEMANAGEMENT
- Strategydevelopment and business planning for the practice
- Identifyingareas for change, improvement or development
- Implementing,managing and monitoring changes in services
- Contractnegotiation, monitoring and evaluation
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Implementing,maintaining and monitoring systems to ensure effective management of allaspects of the practices finances income, expenditure, salaries, etc
- Drawing upproposals for expenditure and case of need
- Working withoutsourced payroll function to ensure correct and timely payments of staffsalaries, tax, NI and administration of the NHS Pension Scheme
- Monitoringactivity against contracts/budgets
- Ensuring systems are in place to enable the practice to maximise its income from claims
- Ensuring costcontrol and added value
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Definingpersonnel and skill mix requirements
- Ensuringlegal and effective recruitment in the selection of personnel
- Ensuring allemployment-related policies are updated, legal and effective
- Implement,manage and monitor systems for managing staff performance (eg: induction,objective-setting, appraisal, sickness/absence management)
- Identify andprioritise training needs and ensure these are appropriately met
- Secureeffective working relationships
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
- Overallresponsibility for Health and Safety and Risk assessment in relation to thepremises, equipment and working practices, including policydevelopment/updating
- Ensuremaintenance and insurance of premises and equipment
- Ensureappropriate systems are in place to cover reporting of accidents, damage,breakdown of equipment etc
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
- Ensureappropriate systems (computerised and manual) are in place so that allnecessary data is able to be collected, stored, analysed and extracted in ameaningful form, as required
- Provide/useinformation to support decision-making and performance management
- Ensure thepractice complies with legal requirements in relation to the use of IT and datacollection
- To supportclinical Caldicott Guardian and act as Information Governance lead
COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT
- Ensurepractice is registered correctly with all appropriate authorities
- Maintainregulatory compliance
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Ensureappropriate systems are in place to establish patients needs for services
- Introduce,develop and evaluate quality assurance systems
- Maintain CQCregistration and ensure practice continues to be working at a good oroutstanding level
- Dealeffectively with complaints about patients care and practice services
- Support/facilitateclinical effective and audit initiatives within the practice
- Ensure thepractice and staff represent a professional image
COMMUNICATIONS
- Ensureeffective communication systems within the practice
- Develop andmaintain robust communication channels with the primary care team
- Ensureeffective communication and liaison with external stakeholders such as PCN, ICBand other health and social care providers
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience of working in general practice or primary care;
- Working knowledge of EMIS clinical system
Qualifications
- Literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to manage a small business
