Job summary

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Practice Educator to join the Neighbourhood, Public & Mental Health System in Liverpool. The post focuses on delivering high‑quality education for registered and unregistered staff, including Nurses, HCAs and AHPs, across Sunflower, EDYS and Crisis Team.

The role includes one clinical shift per week, development of education strategies, and collaboration with clinical teams to improve learning culture and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Registered RMN/LD Nurse or a registered Children's Nurse with MH/LD experience.
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards.
• Post registration qualification in CAMHs or equivalent.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Practice Educator to join the Neighbourhood, Public & Mental Health System.

The successful post holder will provide educational support across the Sunflower, EDYS and Crisis Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality learning and development opportunities for registered and unregistered staff, including Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Allied Health Professionals.

The role will focus on developing and maintaining staff knowledge, skills and competence to ensure a workforce that is fit for purpose and practice. Responsibilities will include supporting mandatory training compliance, contributing to the development and implementation of the system's education strategy, and promoting a positive learning culture across services.

The post holder will work collaboratively with practice education colleagues, clinical teams and external partners to enhance learning opportunities and support workforce development initiatives.

To maintain clinical credibility and support practice-based learning, the role includes one clinical shift per week within Sunflower House.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Registered RMN/LD Nurse Or a registered Childrens Nurse with additional training and experience within the field of Mental Health and/or Learning Disability.
• Teaching qualification or willing to work towards.
• Post registration qualification in CAMHs or equivalent.

Experience

• Substantial post registration clinical, leadership and managerial experience.
• Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity to maintain up-to-date knowledge and on-going competence in all aspects of the role.
• Evidence of working with learners in practice.
• Extensive experience of caring for children in MH Inpatient setting.
• Evidence of developing and delivering training in practice.

Knowledge

• Understanding and knowledge of policy developments related to the delivery of care.
• Understanding of equal opportunity and diversity issues
• Proven ability to work under pressure, to prioritise workload and achieve deadlines.

Skills

• Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively and safely
