Practical Instructor – Electrical Installations

Role: Practical Instructor – Electrical Installations

Location: Tresham College – Corby and/or Wellingborough Campuses

Salary/Benefits: Salary between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum (DOE), 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, people’s pension, retail and leisure discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, access to college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

UK based contract; requires right to work in the UK. No sponsorship.

About the role: We are currently seeking a Practical Instructor in Electrical Installations to join our Building Services department at The Bedford College Group.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain workshop facilities, ensuring tools, machines, and materials are secure, serviceable, and meet health & safety standards.
  • Plan, deliver and assess practical sessions and life skills education, creating engaging, inclusive learning opportunities tailored to individual needs.
  • Monitor attendance, behaviour, and achievement; set clear objectives, provide feedback and implement interventions to support success.
  • Prepare schemes of work, resources and assessments; contribute to course development, quality improvement and compliance with awarding body standards.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and health & safety; engage in CPD, collaborate with colleagues and support college‑wide activities and events.
Qualifications and experience
  • Level 3 Electrical Diploma (2365‑03/8202‑30 or equivalent); GCSE English & Maths (A‑C) or Level 2.
  • Willingness to achieve First Aid, Level 3 Teaching Award, Level 3 TAQA and Cert‑Ed if not already held.
  • Current vocational skills and experience in the electrical industry; knowledge of latest technology and quality assurance systems.
  • Ability to teach across vocational areas and learner levels using varied approaches; deliver courses through multiple learning modes; motivate and inspire learners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to safeguarding, health & safety and continuous professional development; ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Good organisational skills; reflective practice; willingness to work across college sites and adapt to changing work patterns.
