Job description

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical & Electrical PPM Department Manager to lead and grow our Facilities Management function. This key leadership role within Hopkins is responsible for the operational delivery, commercial performance, and future growth of our PPM and reactive maintenance offering. The department currently delivers circa £3m annual turnover with a strategic ambition to grow to £5m by 2028. You will combine strong technical PPM expertise with commercial acumen and people leadership to ensure the department delivers safe, compliant, high‑quality services today while building the capability, systems, and client relationships needed for future growth.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of PPM and reactive maintenance services across a portfolio of technically complex sites, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and performance.
  • Maintain oversight of departmental performance, workload, and client requirements, communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory obligations, health & safety legislation and Hopkins systems and processes.
  • Monitor operational trends and identify opportunities for service improvement, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, small works activity, and service delivery against agreed KPIs and SLAs.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for key clients, building trusted, long‑term relationships.
Growth & Commercial Focus
  • Take ownership of the strategic growth of the Facilities Department, supporting the expansion from £3m to £5m turnover by 2028.
  • Identify and develop new opportunities within existing and new client relationships.
  • Support pricing, forecasting, and workload planning to ensure sustainable and profitable growth.
  • Contribute to wider business planning and align departmental growth with Hopkins' long‑term vision and pillars.
People Leadership
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a multi‑disciplinary engineering and FM team, creating a culture of high standards, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coach and support managers and engineers to enhance performance, engagement, and capability.
  • Ensure the team has the appropriate skills, qualifications, and development plans in place to meet current and future needs.
  • Utilise succession planning and talent data to build robust pipelines and long‑term capability within the department.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing PPM and reactive maintenance programmes.
  • Sound understanding of statutory compliance, CDM, and HSE requirements.
  • Experience leading teams and managing performance against KPIs and SLAs.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to contribute to departmental growth and financial performance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • IOSH (or equivalent) certification required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £65,000 per annum + Car Allowance + Company Benefits. Hours: Full Time - 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Contract: Permanent.
