General Description

University College London (UCL) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Structural Biologist & Lab Manager to join a dynamic research group focused on understanding biological mechanisms at the molecular and structural level. This role combines advanced scientific research with laboratory management responsibilities, offering an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge structural biology projects while ensuring the efficient operation of a busy research laboratory.

The successful candidate will lead and support structural biology research, applying techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), X-ray crystallography, and other biophysical and biochemical approaches to investigate macromolecular structures. The research aims to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes, contributing to advancements in biomedical science.

In addition to research responsibilities, the role includes overseeing laboratory operations, maintaining equipment, managing budgets and consumables, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and supporting other lab members. The postholder will also contribute to training junior researchers and students, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.

Eligibility Criteria
  • PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, or a closely related discipline
  • Proven research experience in structural biology
  • Demonstrated ability to manage laboratory environments and workflows
  • Strong academic track record, including publications in peer-reviewed journals
Required Expertise/Skills
  • Expertise in structural biology techniques such as cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or related methods
  • Experience with protein expression, purification, and characterization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance and procurement
  • Knowledge of laboratory health and safety standards
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communication and mentoring abilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Salary Details

£41,374 to £49,421 per annum (Grade 7), inclusive of London Allowance
