University of Oxford invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead a fungal molecular biology project that investigates thermotolerance in Aspergillus fumigatus and related Aspergilli, bridging fungal biology with evolutionary genetics.
You will conduct evolution experiments, perform genetic manipulation, and carry out susceptibility testing, contributing to insights into thermal adaptation and virulence within a collaborative team spanning environmental microbiology and
This project aims to uncover the mode of action of thermotolerance in the fungal filamentous pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus as well as understanding the evolution of thermal adaptation and virulence in several Aspergilli. You will lead this fungal molecular biology project, spanning from both fungal biology to evolutionary biology and genetics. This Wellcome Trust project links climate change, fungal evolution and pathogen biology. Your work will include running fungal evolution experimentation, fungal genetic manipulation and susceptibility testing.
The successful applicant will have a strong research expertise and specialist knowledge in fungal pathogen biology, or other areas of mycology, including a PhD in a relevant discipline. They will have prior relevant laboratory experience in one or more of the following areas: fungal evolutionary biology, susceptibility testing of fungal pathogens or fungal genetics, including omics. They will show initiative in developing research and methodologies, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and work effectively across a team that spans environmental microbiology to clinical sciences.
