Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Bioelectronics and Neuroengineering for Pain
Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7DQ
Are you passionate about pioneering neurotechnology to transform lives affected by chronic pain? Join the University of Oxford’s EPIONE programme, a six-year EPSRC-funded initiative that brings together leading researchers from Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, and Glasgow to develop next-generation brain stimulation and modulation systems.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Bioelectronics and Neuroengineering to join the team at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering within the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. The post is full-time and fixed term for up to 4.5 years (the EPSRC grant ends in September 2031).
We are seeking a talented and driven Postdoctoral Research Assistant to contribute to the design and implementation of novel engineering technologies for chronic pain. You will work on advanced brain-machine interfaces and non-invasive stimulation systems, integrating real-time behavioural and brain activity monitoring to deliver closed-loop interventions. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the establishment and optimisation of these experimental systems in compliance with regulatory requirements within the host group, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to clinical translation efforts.
You will work with Professor Tim Denison’s Brain Engineering Lab at Oxford’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering, collaborating with the Oxford Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging, MRC BNDU, and the Oxford Health NIHR BRC.
You will hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a related field, and have experience in the development of technological systems for real-time human data processing in interactive settings. Technical expertise in areas such as electrophysiological recording, VR paradigm design, closed-loop algorithm development, or clinical neuroscience is highly desirable.
