Job summary

The Francis Crick Institute in London is seeking an ambitious Postdoctoral Fellow to lead a project investigating Hofstenia's diffuse brain and distributed neural circuits. You will apply experimental and computational approaches to reveal architectural features and how neural units enable distributed computation and behaviour.

Qualifications

• PhD in neuroscience or related field.
• Expertise in neural recordings, coding, and high‑dimensional data analysis.
• Familiarity with genetic methods to label, record from, and perturb specific cell populations.
• Track record of publishing rigorous, creative papers.
• Familiarity with state-of-the-art methods to study behaviour (desirable).
• Familiarity with marine invertebrates or other non-model species (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Lead systems neuroscience project on Hofstenia distributed brain.
• Develop methods to visualize circuit architecture and record neural activity.
• Ensure findings are reproducible and well-documented.
• Collaborate with lab members and collaborators.
• Mentor graduate students where appropriate.
• Present findings at lab meetings, seminars and conferences.
• Contribute to writing articles for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Support growth of the lab’s research programme.
