Job summary

The Roslin Institute / Quantitative Biology at The University of Edinburgh invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in disease transmission genetics and modelling. The successful candidate will work on a project using Drosophila melanogaster as a model to dissect genetic and immune determinants of host infectiousness, applying genetic-epidemiological inference and predictive models.

We seek a highly motivated researcher with a PhD (or near completion) in a quantitative field

Qualifications

  • PhD, or near completion within 3 months, in a discipline with a substantial quantitative component
  • Proven track record in quantitative genetics and genomics, GLMMs, Bayesian statistics/MCMC, and mathematical modelling of disease or other dynamic processes
  • Experience in high performance computing and writing efficient computational code for genetic/statistical analyses and simulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication evidenced by publications and conference presentations
  • Excellent organisation and time management; ability to work independently and in a team
  • Knowledge of Drosophila or other model organism genetics is desirable
  • We do not expect a single candidate to fulfil all criteria; training will be provided to acquire new skills

Responsibilities

  • Apply genetic-epidemiological inference and prediction models to project data
  • Develop and apply advanced analytical and computational modelling approaches
  • Generate insights on determinants and transmission dynamics to inform disease control
