Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Thurso is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed term 9-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, work outdoors, and be part of a rotating schedule including weekends.

We provide full training, a uniform, and a modern red van. You will need a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points) and willingness to drive daily.

Location: Thurso Delivery Office, KW14 7AL

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37:00 hours per week - working 9 days in a fortnight, Monday - Saturday - 09:00/18:30*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
