Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Dorking is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You’ll work 37 hours per week on a rotating shift that includes some weekends, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot in your local area, with full training provided.

You need a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 points), to be physically fit to walk long distances, lift 10kg+ mailbags, and pass a driving assessment.

Job description

Location: Dorking Delivery Office, RH4 1SA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37.00hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday working morning or afternoon shifts between 07:00/19:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work 3 in 4 Sundays on a rotational basis.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
