Job summary

Royal Mail in Stockport is recruiting delivery and collection workers with driving responsibilities (under 3.5 tonne). This temporary role is 30 hours per week over 5 days, including Sundays, from 08:30 to 15:30, delivering mail and parcels in a local area.

You will start at the local delivery office, sort mail for your route, perform vehicle checks, then drive and walk parts of your round, using a handheld device for signatures and tracking outcomes.

About the role: Delivering and collecting mail and parcels to houses and businesses within a set area. You'll be the face of Royal Mail in your local community, and work flexible hours to deliver the outstanding levels of service our customers have come to expect.

• You'll start your day in the local delivery office, sorting the mail for your route.
• You will then need to complete the necessary checks on your vehicle, guidance on how to complete these checks will be covered during your initial training, before joining a colleague in a shared van to start your round.
• You'll each be given a hand-held computer device to capture customer signatures for deliveries and the round will take around four hours to complete.
• The role will involve a combination of driving and walking, depending on daily requirements, route allocations and vehicle availability.
• Candidates must be comfortable undertaking both, as some days may involve driving to a designated location, completing the remainder of the route on foot, and driving back at the end of the day.

We use a variety of equipment to convey the mail this includes the use of light weight and high capacity trollies which are supplied to carry your mail as you walk on foot between delivery points. You will move to new delivery areas throughout the day, driving your vehicle in a responsible manner and parking safely at all times before returning back to the delivery office.

• Upbeat and self-motivated, you'll be as happy working alone as you will be working as part of a team and getting to know the different people on your round.
• You'll have a strong sense of community and the idea of doing a job that involves flexible shift patterns will appeal.

We deliver mail come rain or shine, so we're looking for safety conscious people who like being outdoors whatever the weather, and because there is walking involved in every round, you'll also be someone who likes the idea of doing a job that will help you keep fit. Some experience in a customer facing role would be ideal.

• Pay: £13.69 per hour (up to 8pm), £14.38 (after 8pm)
• Term: Temporary, required for up to 8 weeks
