Job Overview

We are recruiting to two whole‑time fixed‑term posts of one year duration each with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Of the two posts available, one will have a start date of February 2026 and the other, a start date of August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

The appointee/s will provide intermediate grade support to the Consultant Ophthalmologists appropriate to their level of experience. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a special interest in Vitreoretinal Surgery.

The appointee would be expected to play a full part in the clinical, teaching and governance activities of the directorate. Please refer to the supporting job description and person specification which will outline the duties of the role including an indicative job plan.

Qualifications

The appointment is for a fixed term period of 1 year. A medical degree or diploma from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution or equivalent is essential. Candidates must have clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Ophthalmology. The post does not award a National Training Number.

Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.

The post is ST7 Level (or equivalent).
