Job description

Our client is seeking a highly capable investment professional with deep expertise in third‑party manager research and selection. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating external managers, conducting thorough qualitative and quantitative due diligence, and producing clear, evidence‑based recommendations for portfolio inclusion. This role is primarily focused on manager selection rather than direct security‑level portfolio management, though the individual will contribute to asset allocation discussions and portfolio monitoring where relevant. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience in manager research, fund selection, or multi‑asset research roles, though shorter experience may be considered if there is a strong cultural fit and willingness to undergo further training. Strong analytical capabilities and excellent written communication skills are essential to effectively convey complex ideas. Candidates should have a robust understanding of portfolio construction principles and risk analytics.

Job Duties:
  • Lead the full lifecycle of manager research across equities, fixed income, and alternative strategies.
  • Conduct detailed qualitative assessments of investment philosophy, process, team structure, organisational stability, capacity, and alignment.
  • Perform quantitative analyses including performance decomposition, risk factor evaluation, holdings‑based risk assessment, and style/behavioural profiling.
  • Coordinate and lead manager meetings, on‑site due diligence, reference checks, and operational risk reviews.
  • Produce high‑quality written due diligence reports and formal recommendations for the Investment Committee.
  • Maintain ongoing coverage of approved managers, monitoring performance drivers, risk exposures, portfolio changes, and key‑person/firm changes.
  • Provide manager‑level insights to inform portfolio construction and Strategic Asset Allocation/Tactical Asset Allocation decisions.
  • Monitor how selected managers interact within portfolios, including correlation, diversification characteristics, and unintended risks.
  • Assist with rebalancing workflows and the oversight of mandate implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Investment Officer to identify potential enhancements to the manager line‑up.
  • Ensure all due diligence and monitoring meets regulatory and internal governance standards, including JFSC requirements.
  • Prepare concise, client‑ready research notes, Investment Committee papers, and portfolio commentary.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with external managers, platforms, consultants, and operational teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on manager selection for internal teams and clients.
  • Support relationship managers with communicating manager rationale, positioning, and performance.
  • Participate in client meetings and due diligence sessions when required.
Job Requirements:
  • 5+ years’ experience in manager research, fund selection, or multi‑asset research roles; shorter experience may be considered with strong cultural fit and training willingness.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with a proven track record of assessing active managers.
  • Excellent written reporting abilities and strong communication skills.
  • A robust understanding of portfolio construction principles and risk analytics.
  • Undergraduate degree required, ideally in finance, economics, or a related analytical discipline.
  • Master’s, CFA, CAIA, or equivalent academic/professional qualification preferred.
