A local government authority is seeking a marine operative (cutter crew) to deliver services at the Port of Sunderland. Responsibilities include crewing pilot launches and workboats, operating marine equipment, and maintaining dock structures. Candidates must possess essential maritime qualifications including a Boatmasters Licence and medical certification. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Port's development.
Owned by Sunderland City Council, the Port of Sunderland offers the provision of port services and infrastructure to a range of market sectors including bulk, project/unitised cargo handling, ship repair and marine engineering, North Sea oil and gas industry support, offshore renewable energy and subsea engineering. The rail‑connected port estate is increasingly recognised as a location of choice for third‑party inward investment that will further support growth in these markets.

We will also require you to operate and maintain dock gates, sluices, swing bridges and barriers. You may also be required to undertake other marine and non‑marine services commensurate with training, experience and qualifications.
