Job summary

Academy of Medical Sciences in London is seeking a Policy and External Affairs Specialist to support the delivery of external affairs, parliamentary engagement and stakeholder relations.

You will translate complex medical science into accessible policy messages and work with the Head of External Affairs to raise the Academy's visibility with decision-makers across government and Parliament.

Qualifications

• Experience in public affairs, policy or a related role, ideally within health or charity sectors.
• Understanding of UK political and parliamentary processes.
• Experience supporting stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
• Ability to translate complex evidence into clear policy messages.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of external affairs strategy.
• Parliamentary and stakeholder engagement: manage relationships with MPs, peers, civil servants and health bodies; organise briefings and events.
• Policy influencing and public affairs delivery: assist in developing influencing plans and respond to consultations.
• Political monitoring and intelligence: summarise developments and brief colleagues.
• Communications and briefing: draft parliamentary briefings and background notes; prepare materials for policymakers.
• Events and convening: plan and deliver external engagement activities and policy discussions.
• Cross-Academy working: collaborate with Policy, Communications and Engagement teams.
