We are looking for two Policy Associates to join our Strategy and Innovation Directorate in Birmingham, Cardiff or London. These senior roles offer substantial responsibility and the opportunity to shape the SRA's policy direction. You will contribute across diverse policy areas, including innovation, providing strategic insight and driving meaningful change.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a varied range of policy and research projects covering regulatory policy, innovation and technology.
- Play a key role in the development, delivery and implementation of major reforms to protect consumers and promote the rule of law.
- Plan, organise and manage work streams within complex, high‑stakes policy projects.
- Apply robust project‑management techniques and lead initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
- Become an expert on policy issues, conduct rigorous investigations, and create innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including executives, to influence outcomes.
- Use the range of regulatory tools, evidence base and equality, diversity and inclusion values to inform policy decisions.
- Use piloting, collaboration, partnership and influencing to deliver our agenda.
- Work 1‑2 days per week in the office with the rest of the week from home.
- Travel to other SRA offices for stakeholder meetings and events as required.
- Interviews will take place via MS Teams on 10 and 11 December.
Qualifications
- Proficient influencer who communicates confidently, clearly and concisely to all levels of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical ability to understand complex policy issues and use judgement to develop practical solutions.
- Excellent drafting skills, producing high‑quality, well‑argued and evidence‑based papers for executive and board‑level audiences, including externally published work.
- Experience of policy development in complex areas, with a deep understanding of regulatory and research tools and technologies.
- Tenacious interpersonal skills, capable of working constructively with colleagues at all levels and establishing influential relationships.
- Experience in tech, AI or GenAI, ideally within legal services or another professional‑services environment.
- Demonstrated ability to apply scrutiny and manage policy recommendation cycles.
