Job summary

Joint Legal Services team supporting Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Police in Birmingham/Staffordshire seeks a Regulatory Lawyer. The role covers police misconduct, inquests, public inquiries and other regulatory matters in a permanent, hybrid setting.

You will advise the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner, manage a complex caseload with autonomy, and work with senior clients and Counsel on challenging cases.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive with experience handling complex legal work.
• Experience in inquests is particularly desirable.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision on high-profile matters.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal service to Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner.
• Advise on and represent the forces in legal proceedings and hearings.
• Instruct and work with external advisers and counsel on complex matters.
• Develop relationships with senior clients and stakeholders.
• Some basic advocacy alongside Counsel on complex matters.
