Our new Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP) blends classroom learning at one of the Met's in‑house training centres with learning on the job. It’s a two‑year programme that counts as probation, preparing you for a hands‑on policing role on London’s streets.
The training follows the national policing curriculum and focuses on law, specialist policing knowledge, and practical application.
Training centres are located at:
After a week’s introduction to the Met, you start 16 weeks of classroom learning. The training follows a shift pattern on alternate weeks.
Following classroom learning, you will spend two months working in a police team on “Street Duties”, under a dedicated experienced officer acting as your tutor constable. The remainder of the two years will involve building on your learning and experience through a range of policing roles, including responding to emergency calls and working with communities.
Starting salary over £42,210. On successful completion of the programme, you will earn £44,844 (all salaries include allowances).
We will also consider an English language equivalent overseas qualification in place of the Level 2 qualification. Training and assessment are conducted according to the Met’s standards.
