Job description
Police Community Support Officers vacancy in Dorset (299DP)

Salary: Starts at £27,204 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £29,859.

Dorset Police is recruiting for police community support officers (PCSOs) and is proud to welcome individuals from military backgrounds into the policing family. Transitioning from military service to policing is a natural and rewarding progression for many veterans. From patrolling the streets and supporting your communities to enjoying a well‑earned stroll along Dorset's beautiful landscapes, we can offer the balance of both as a PCSO with Dorset Police.

As a PCSO, you will be highly visible and act as a vital link between the public, police and partners. PCSOs carry out patrols, deal with anti‑social behaviour, gather intelligence and resolve community issues. Working closely with local authorities, businesses, and Neighbourhood Watch, PCSOs have various authoritative powers and assist in ensuring communities are safe and protected.

What is the difference between a PCSO and a police constable? PCSOs do not have powers of arrest, can only investigate minor offences and do not carry out the more complex and high‑risk tasks that police officers can perform.

Benefits
  • Salary – starts at £27,204 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £29,859.
  • Generous pension – you can transfer a military pension to the Police Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Scheme (subject to individual circumstances).
  • Ongoing support – staff support networks, Employee Assistance Programme, Occupational Health, supportive and flexible training plan.
