Podiatry Apprentice

What's on Offer?

  • The academic training will be delivered by the University of Plymouth, covering modules such as:
    1. Introduction to Podiatric Practice
    2. Human Anatomy and Physiology
    3. Person‑Centred Care
    4. Systemic Disorders of the Lower Limb
    5. Musculoskeletal Conditions and Applied Biomechanics in the Foot and Lower Limb
  • Your salary during training will either be Band 5 with Annex 21 applied (Year 1 – 65% of top of Band 5, Year 2 – 70%, Year 3 – 75%) or Annex 30 will apply and you will remain on your current band and pay point if you are an existing employee so that you are not at a financial disadvantage during your apprenticeship. Full details will be included in your conditional offer letter should you be successful in your application.
Main duties of the job

You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of a Podiatrist through your apprenticeship within the service as well as through completion of the Podiatry Apprenticeship training programme. This includes working in clinic and community care settings, and delivery of direct person‑centred care. Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a Podiatry Apprentice, where your role will reflect your learning.

The Podiatry Apprenticeship Programme combines and integrates academic and work‑based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. For the BSc you can expect to spend a minimum of 20% of your time accessing e‑learning and a further 40% working in practice, under the direct supervision of a clinical mentor. As a Podiatry Apprentice you will be based as an employee within a variety of clinical settings. This will enable you to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts, which will enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc (Hons) Podiatry programme.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be equipped with the appropriate knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours to ensure competence at the point of qualification. You will have the capability to continue to meet Health and Care Professions Council regulatory standards and the College of Podiatry professional standards throughout your professional career.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Level 2 qualification to include Maths, English and Science at Level 4/C or above. Functional skills level 2 Maths and English will be considered.
  • Evidence of Level 3 qualification.
  • Requirements in accordance with HEI standards and expectations.
Experience
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate evidence of recent academic achievement such that they may be deemed capable of study at degree level.
  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of Professional Code of Conduct for Podiatry.
  • Understanding of audit.
  • Understanding of confidentiality issues.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
