Community Specialist Podiatrist

Main Duties of the Job
  • Manage a specialist community caseload and demonstrate current assessment techniques (e.g., monofilaments, ABPI, Doppler).
  • Treat ‘At Risk’ patients, including wound care and carry out nail surgery.
  • Use evidence‑based MSK skills to offload the At Risk Foot.
  • Identify local podiatry needs, evaluate priorities and deliver care within contractual agreements.
  • Work in partnership with patients and other service users, communicating effectively to meet their needs and convey potentially distressing information.
  • Attend clinics, training and meetings across the wider county, and be available for occasional work outside core hours (evenings and weekends).

Essential Criteria
  • BSc Podiatry (or equivalent – e.g., Diploma in Podiatric Medicine or overseas qualification with equivalent BSc experience)
  • HCPC registration
  • Good interpersonal skills – effective listening/speaking appropriate to the needs of the recipient; communicating complex information
  • Approachable – demonstrating a friendly and open manner facilitates communication
  • Empathetic approach to the personal circumstances of patients
  • Accurate assessment, testing and diagnosis of complex foot pathologies within the specialist eligibility criteria of service and field of practice
  • Effective communication and partnership working with patients/the general public, especially in respect of foot health education
  • Evidence of treatment planning/patient management
Desirable Criteria
  • Postgraduate certificates
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Working within the NHS
