Job description

Job Title: PMO Analyst (Consultant)

Location: City of London - onsite 3 days per week

Duration: Fixed Term Contract - 6 months

Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 dependent on experience

Start: ASAP

At Pace, our consultants genuinely care about the impact our work has on our customers and their customers alike. We are ‘problem solvers’ who call on our collective experience, knowledge and skills to support customers to access benefits early.

Our mission is to create environments that thrive for our customers; we enable this by providing transformation, process optimisation, and automation services, all with the aim of enabling our customers to harness human autonomy.

We are reimagining how transformation services are delivered, taking a human‑centred approach, and our work is having a material impact on people's lives. If this resonates with you, we would love to hear from you.

Role:

Supporting one of our key customers in Central London, you will provide Portfolio Management Office support across complex Business Change and Technology portfolios during the transition to a new operating model.

You will play an important role in maintaining stability, consistency and effective delivery oversight across the portfolio. Working closely with Project Managers and senior stakeholders, you will help ensure that portfolio reporting, governance, project assurance, financial controls and demand intake processes operate effectively.

This is a hands‑on PMO position that will suit someone who enjoys creating structure, maintaining high standards and helping Project Managers navigate established ways of working. The priority is consistent day‑to‑day delivery and stability, rather than introducing unnecessary process change or seeking out major transformation initiatives.

You will also support the migration of live and pipeline project information to a new portfolio management solution, helping to maintain the quality, accuracy and continuity of portfolio data throughout the transition.

Responsibilities of the Portfolio Management Office Analyst include:
  • Support Project Managers in consistently applying the customer’s project management methodology, including the use of appropriate templates and the maintenance of complete, proportionate and high‑quality project documentation.
  • Provide practical guidance to Project Managers, particularly new joiners, to help them understand and navigate portfolio processes and governance requirements.
  • Ensure the timely submission of project documentation, including status reports, gateway documents and supporting governance materials.
  • Review project status reports to assess project health, proactively seek clarification from Project Managers and elevate material risks, issues or concerns when required.
  • Produce and maintain accurate portfolio information, including portfolio trackers, dashboards, deployment plans and management reporting.
  • Support the effective operation of the Portfolio Management Board by preparing agendas, coordinating board papers and submissions, and following up agreed actions.
  • Provide guidance and quality assurance relating to project financial information, helping to resolve queries and maintain accurate portfolio oversight.
  • Undertake adhoc analysis, including year‑end reviews of delivered projects and performance against key measures such as time and cost.
  • Prepare and manage a schedule of project deep dives to support quality assurance and identify delivery, control and governance risks.
  • Maintain the project portfolio pipeline, ensuring records are current, complete and suitable for governance, prioritisation and capacity decisions.
  • Support the demand intake process by monitoring request status, following up actions and contributing to the weekly demand triage forum.
  • Support the transition to a new portfolio management solution, including the controlled migration of live project and pipeline data.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, portfolio leaders and other stakeholders to improve the quality of project information without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Maintain robust governance and reporting disciplines while supporting continuity of delivery throughout a period of organisational change.
The successful PMO Analyst will be able to demonstrate the following experience and capabilities:
  • PMO Experience: Demonstrable PMO or portfolio support experience across multiple projects, programmes or delivery workstreams.
  • Governance Knowledge: A strong understanding of project governance, project lifecycles, status reporting, assurance processes and supporting documentation.
  • Portfolio Reporting: Experience producing clear and accurate portfolio trackers, dashboards, deployment plans and management information.
  • Analytical Judgement: The ability to analyse project information, assess delivery health, ask effective questions and escalating material concerns using sound judgement.
  • Constructive Challenge: Confidence working with Project Managers to clarify delivery status and improve the completeness and quality of project information.
  • Focused on Delivery: A practical approach to maintaining momentum, following through on agreed actions and ensuring established priorities are delivered consistently.
  • Strong Multitasker: The ability to manage multiple governance cycles, reporting requirements and portfolio activities simultaneously.
  • Confident Communicator: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Project Managers, senior stakeholders and governance forums.
  • Proactive Ownership: A willingness to take responsibility for the accuracy, timeliness and quality of portfolio information.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organisational skills and a disciplined approach to maintaining records, tracking actions and managing documentation.
  • Team Player: A collaborative working style and a genuine interest in supporting Project Managers and colleagues to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Adaptable: The ability to operate effectively during organisational change while maintaining stability, consistency and high standards.
  • Solution‑Focused: A pragmatic approach to resolving issues and improving delivery without introducing unnecessary complexity or bureaucracy.
  • Stakeholder Management: The confidence to build productive relationships and follow up actions appropriately in a complex delivery environment.
  • Microsoft 365 Capability: Competence using standard Microsoft 365 applications, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Desirable:
  • Experience supporting both Business Change and Technology portfolios.
  • Exposure to demand intake processes, portfolio governance boards and project deep dives.
  • Experience of project financial oversight, including accruals or transaction reporting.
  • Experience migrating portfolio data or supporting the implementation of a portfolio management solution.
  • Experience working within a consulting, professional services or similarly complex environment.
  • Legal‑sector experience may be helpful but is not essential.
  • Relevant project, programme or portfolio management qualifications
What’s in it for you?
  • An opportunity to join a high‑growth, scale‑up consulting firm making a material difference in how clients are served.
  • Personal development focus with annual appraisals, development plans, and bi‑weekly coaching conversations.
