Personal Assistant

A 17 year old boy living in the Pentre area seeks a personal assistant to support independence and community engagement while managing autism, anxiety and sensory issues. He lives with his family and pets and requires assistance with everyday tasks and safety.

Purpose of Job

Encourage and support the candidate to become independent when away from family.

Place of Work

At home and out in the community.

Hours of Work

3 hours term time, 6 hours non‑term. Any weekday or evening as we are flexible.

Rate of Pay

£13.30 per hour.

Tasks Involved
  • Encouraging independence when away from the family unit.
  • Being aware of safety when out, especially in regards to road safety.
  • Staying calm and patient when anxiety levels increase.
  • Taking the candidate out into the local community.
  • Staying in the house with the candidate when he does not want to go out.
Type of Person Required
  • Someone with a good sense of humour.
  • A sensible attitude with regards to road safety.
  • Will need to be trained in how to use the epi pen.
  • Someone with a reassuring nature.
  • Experience preferred but not essential.
About the Job

Although part‑time, this is a formal role requiring a National Insurance number. A trial period will be necessary initially. The wage will be paid on a monthly basis with appropriate holiday pay. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) check, which will be carried out before employment can commence. The employer (Local Authority) will cover the cost of these checks and ensure the applicant has the right to work in the UK.

Personal Background

The candidate lives with his mum, two tortoises and a friendly dog. He has a sister he sees weekly at his dad’s house. He has autism which can cause anxiety and sensory issues, as well as a nut and spice allergy for which he carries an epi‑pen. He is independent in his hobbies, enjoys films, music, gaming and nature outings.
