Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our Technical Services team supporting Northumbria University in Gateshead and surrounding sites. You will deliver planned, reactive and compliance-related maintenance across university estates while ensuring a safe, comfortable living and learning environment for students.

The role requires NVQ Level 3 Plumbing, a full UK driving licence, and experience in planned and reactive maintenance.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 Plumbing & Heating or equivalent
• Water Regulations qualification or equivalent
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Experience in planned and reactive maintenance
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Experience maintaining hot and cold-water systems and sanitaryware
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• IT literacy and CAFM/maintenance systems
• Ability to work independently within a team

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on plumbing and mechanical systems
• Diagnose and repair plumbing faults quickly and effectively
• Maintain hot and cold-water systems, sanitaryware, pipework, pumps, valves, taps and showers
• Respond to emergency leaks, blockages, water outages and breakdowns
• Support water hygiene and Legionella compliance programmes
• Complete plumbing upgrades, replacements and minor installation projects
• Update maintenance activities accurately using CAFM systems such as Maximo
• Work professionally within occupied student residences and academic facilities
• Participate in an on-call rota supporting a 24/7 operation
• Support sustainability and water-efficiency initiatives across the estate

• Flexibility required to cover various sites across Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead

• £18.26ph + excellent benefits

• 40hrs pw Monday to Friday

• Flexibility required for start and finish times which can vary, from 08.00 to 16.30 and 10.00 to 18.30

• on call rota 1 week in 4; payment given

As a Plumber within our Hard FM Services team, you'll be responsible for delivering planned, reactive and compliance-related maintenance activities across the University estate.

What You’ll Do:

What You Bring:

Essential

• NVQ Level 3 Plumbing & Heating, City & Guilds Level 3 Plumbing, or an equivalent recognised qualification
• Water Regulations qualification or demonstrable equivalent competence
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Experience working in a planned and reactive maintenance environment
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently
• Experience maintaining hot and cold-water systems, sanitaryware and associated distribution systems
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Good IT literacy and experience using CAFM or maintenance management systems
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider facilities management team

Desirable

• Unvented Hot Water qualification
• Legionella and Water Hygiene training
• IPAF and PASMA certifications
• First Aid at Work qualification
• Experience working within universities, student accommodation, healthcare, hospitality or large-scale facilities management environments
• Experience supporting refurbishment, lifecycle and minor works projects
