Job summary

Leonardo UK is hiring a Platform Engineer to shape, build and operate the infrastructure underpinning our engineering platform. You will own core development tools and container platforms, from requirements and design through deployment, support and continuous improvement.

You will work with cloud platforms, container orchestration, infrastructure as code and automation to deliver secure, scalable services, while improving observability and guiding engineering teams toward best practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar Platform/Engineering role.
• Proficiency with Linux server administration and cloud platforms.
• Strong knowledge of container orchestration, IaC and automation.
• Programming/scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go) and observability practices.

Salary Range: Senior Engineer £45000 - £60000 Principal Engineer £54000 - £70000 Where this vacancy is being recruited across more than one grade, the successful candidate will be appointed to a specific assessed grade, and the applicable salary range will be that associated with the grade of appointment. Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.

Your impact

As a Platform Engineer you will help shape, build and operate the infrastructure and services that underpin our engineering platform, from requirements and design through to deployment, support and continuous improvement. Take ownership of core development tools and infrastructure, including compute, container platforms, application hosting and quality assurance systems. You will provide technical guidance, improve reliability and help engineering teams adopt consistent best practices. Using technologies such as cloud platforms, container orchestration, infrastructure as code and automation, you will help deliver secure, scalable and resilient services. You will also investigate complex technical issues, improve observability and reduce operational risk and manual effort.

What you'll bring

We need someone who has experience in a similar role and can bring their knowledge and expertise into the team. We're ideally looking for experience in:

• Linux, application and server administration
• Cloud platforms, virtualisation and containers
• Infrastructure as code and configuration management
• Programming and scripting, such as Python, Bash or Go
• Monitoring, observability and SRE practices
• Infrastructure, networking and performance troubleshooting
• Secure, resilient and scalable system design
• Technical documentation and operational guidance
• Technical leadership and mentoring

• Experience supporting business-critical platforms
• Familiarity with CI/CD and software delivery lifecycles
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement
